Using Products in Invoices

Once you've created products, using them in invoices is quick and efficient.

Adding Products to an Invoice

When creating or editing an invoice, you'll see a product dropdown or search field. Simply:

  1. Click the product field or start typing
  2. Select the product you want to add
  3. The product's name, description, and price will be automatically populated
  4. Adjust the quantity if needed
  5. Add more products as required

Customising Product Details on Invoices

Even though products have standard details, you can customise them on each invoice:

  • Override the price - Change the price for this specific invoice
  • Edit the description - Tailor the description for this particular client
  • Adjust quantity - Set the appropriate quantity for this invoice

These customisations only affect the current invoice and won't change the product's standard details in your library.

Quantity Handling

Products work with quantities just like custom line items. If you're billing for multiple units of the same product, simply set the quantity accordingly. LoveInvoice will calculate the total automatically.

Product History

When you add a product to an invoice, LoveInvoice captures the product details at that moment. This means if you later update a product's price or description, existing invoices won't be affected. They'll retain the details from when they were created.

Quick Add vs Custom Line Items

You can mix products and custom line items on the same invoice. Use products for standard items and custom line items for one-off charges or unique situations. This gives you the best of both worlds.
